Amazing Show
I really like this one. I'm a big fan of Steve's in general, and KVHW in particular. This is a great recording of a fun and well played show. Belongs in any serious psychedelic music collection, great driving tunes too, or morning in a ski cabin while making eggs and pancakes.

great performance - dissenting opinion on the sound
First of all, thanks for the upload. Like a lot of folks, I think KVHW was Steve's best lineup. Love these gigs.
However I am quite surprised that everyone seems to think the onstage miking was a good idea for these shows. I disagree rather strongly. Onstage miking is rather obviously only preferred for instrumental music because the vocals typically come out distant, muffled, and out of place. That is the case on this recording.
First of all, Ray is a big reason why many of us prefer this band to Steve's other lineups, so why minimize his contribution? His voice is deep, resonant and soulful, but you wouldn't know it from the onstage pulls.
Second, and more to the point, it's an unrealistic recording. It simply doesn't make an accurate image of the sound in the room, period. Unless you were sitting on the front of the stage.
Anyway, it's water under the bridge. No doubt onstage miking is the way to go for most Kimock projects, but not this one.
Four stars for the show - an excellent one, though I don't agree it's the best I've ever heard SK; five stars for the sound quality on the instrumental tracks; and two stars for sound quality on vocal tracks. That averages out to just under 4 so I'll be nice and give it a 4. But it's with a pretty strong caveat.

Thanks
It's Jacobson, with an O at the end. I did NOT need much encouragement to setup on stage, having learned the technique from The Panel et al earlier in the year. IIRC, mics this night were crossed (XY) and the night before spread (Y).
Peace, Bob

Maybe one of the best nights of Steve Kimock music I have EVER seen. The band is sooooooo on fire this night its crazy!! The Tangled Hangers opener is just an example!!
This show was recorded by Bob Jacobsen on stage.
Thanks to Matt and I talking him into setting up his mics ONSTAGE!! Thanks to Charlie Miller for the transfer!!! This night changed my way of thinking about music!!
Brian!

MUST HAVE!!!!
Like I said on my review of the night before, these two nights are some of the best, if not the best, music ever played by Steve and his bandmates. KVHW was so freakin' good. Anyone who likes to jam should have these two nights on CD. Too bad they did not stay together longer.
The sound quality is stellar...thanks to CM! I prefer stage mic recordings and this is perfect.
